At the recent Austria-Ethiopia Business Forum in Addis Ababa, Austrian business leaders expressed optimism about Ethiopia’s growing investment opportunities. Elisabeth Hirschbichler, head of the Austrian delegation, highlighted the impressive pace and scope of Ethiopia’s economic reforms, which have opened multiple sectors to foreign investment. Reflecting on her experience in Ethiopia a decade ago, Hirschbichler remarked on the country’s significant progress and untapped potential, noting the dynamic environment surrounding the private sector and business initiatives.
Ethiopia has implemented sweeping reforms aimed at fostering a more open economy, including the liberalization of the telecom and financial sectors, as well as enhancements to trade and logistics infrastructure. These measures signal Ethiopia’s commitment to creating a more investor-friendly climate, with increased reliability and confidence in its business environment. Hirschbichler emphasized that these reforms present excellent opportunities for international businesses, especially as the country’s economic framework becomes increasingly attractive to foreign investors.
Austria’s Ambassador to Ethiopia, Simone Knapp, reinforced this sentiment, pointing out Ethiopia’s vast potential in various sectors, from its geographic size to its market scale. She noted that Ethiopia’s recent legal and administrative reforms have furthered its appeal as a business-friendly destination. With sectors continuously opening to both domestic and international investment, Ethiopia is positioning itself as a promising hub for global investors seeking to capitalize on the country’s evolving economic landscape.
