The Government of Ethiopia has issued exploration and production licenses for 24 investment projects with a total capital of close to 5 billion birr (171 million USD).
According to the statement issued by Ethiopian Ministry of Mines and Petroleum today, 19 investment projects in the areas of exploration and five in production were licensed during the concluded Ethiopian budget year, which ended July 7, 2019.
The statement said artisanal mining has created jobs for more than 179,000 compatriots.
The Ministry fell short of its target in minerals export by generating only 49 million USD, according to the statement.
The East African nation plans to generate 265.5 million USD from minerals export in the current Ethiopian budget year, it was indicated.
