Kenya launches industry body to boost packaging recycling

Kenya on Friday launched an industry body that will boost the recycling of all non-hazardous packaging materials in the country.

Soipan Tuya, cabinet secretary for the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry, told journalists in the Kenyan capital of Nairobi that the Packaging Producer Responsibility Organization (PAKPRO) will provide financial subsidies to waste collectors in order to accelerate the recycling of packaging materials made of plastics, aluminum and glass.

“This organization will help to shift our economy from a linear one where resources are taken, products are made and then waste generated is discarded.
